BMHOF Class of 1986
Stan Szelest was the leader of Stan and the Ravens, a '60s group which provided a training ground for numerous local and national artists.
He was a member of the Nighthawks, which evolved into The Band, but Szelest left the group before they began their association with Bob Dylan.
After touring and recording with many major names in the business, he again rejoined The Band and contributed some songs for their last album. He died of a heart attack at age 47, at a recording studio in Woodstock, NY, while completing the Band's album.
Due to the number of artists that he influenced, Stan Szelest could be called the father of rock music in Buffalo.
