BMHOF Class of 2009
Although all the members of this group have been individually inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, the sum of their talents is greater than the parts. Raven is so important to the local scene - credited with establishing “the Buffalo Sound” by taking everything that was done before them, listening to old blues records and other local bands, cleaning it up, and providing high energy performances that rocked the city and eventually the nation. It was a band that, once it hit the clubs like Steve Paul’s “Scene” in New York City, became a favorite of Jimi Hendrix and George Harrison. They were signed to album deals and had a successful run regionally and nationally before disbanding in 1970, disillusioned by the record business. All the members have gone on to other successful music careers and a number of reunions have been performed. Since the passing of Tom Calandra, after which the other members have chosen to never perform again as Raven, local bands still strive for that sound.
