Kristen Pfaff was born May 26, 1967 in Buffalo, NY. She grew up in the Buffalo suburbs and played with several local bands. In 1988, she began studying at the University of Minnesota, where she was instrumental in the development of Radio K, the University's student radio station.

While attending the University of Minnesota, Kristen played in a number of local groups. In 1991, she joined "Janitor Joe" as bassist and co-songwriter/vocalist. While on tour with "Janitor Joe" in 1993, she was recruited by "Hole" and moved to Seattle to help write and record the Live Through This album.

After her untimely death in 1994, a group of her friends established the Kristen Pfaff Scholarship fund To honor Kristen's adventurous spirit and inspirational presence. Her untimely death cut horribly short the life of a scholar, musician, activist and friend.
