BMHOF Class of 1983
Before everyone else knew Billy Sheehan was one of the best bass players in the world, the music fans of Western New York were well acquainted with his playing ability. For years he rocked area stages with Talas, the Tweeds and Light Years. Buffalo Music Fans voted Billy the Top Bass Player in the 1981 and 1982 Music Awards, and he was one of the first members of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame. Everyone knew he was headed for national prominence and most people wondered what was taking the rest of the world so long to discover him.
One memory that few people will forget is when Billy was on tour with UFO he made a telephone call from England, broadcast over the PA system, to greet everyone at The Awards Show. It was obvious why he could not attend the show. The tour with UFO and friendship he developed with David Lee Roth were taking him on the road to national fame.
After Talas broke up Billy joined The David Lee Roth Band and went on to form Mr. Big, which achieved multi platinum success. He has received many awards across the world, but his first awards were voted to him by his many fans in the Buffalo area.
Billy teamed up with Dave and Paul to record a live Talas album during a performance at Kleinhans Music Hall in November 1997. This was followed by a tour of Japan and another sold out show at Kleinhans in November 1998.
