BMHOF Class of 1994
Since their beginning in Jamestown in the fall of 1981, the 10,000 Maniacs were determined to break onto the national scene, so they kept releasing their own independent albums and playing college towns up and down the East coast. Since then, they have enjoyed platinum albums and international fame. Together with artists like R.E.M., they defined college rock and created the first wave of alternative rock bands and what became know as the alternative rock format on FM radio.
The original group included Natalie Merchant (vocals), Rob Buck (guitar), John Lombardo (guitar), Steven Gustafson (bass) and Dennis Drew (keyboard). John left before the band broke nationally and Sloan, NY native Jerry Augustyniak (formerly with the Stains and the Elements) joined as drummer in 1983.
During the band's 1994 tour, John and his partner, violinist/vocalist Mary Ramsey opened all of the Maniacs' shows and contributed to the album. When Natalie left to pursue a successful solo career, John and Mary became full-time members of the band.
The 10,000 Maniacs are currently touring with band members: Jerome Augustyniak, Drums, Dennis Drew - Keyboards, Vocals, Jeff Erickson - Guitars, Vocals, Steven Gustafson - Bass Guitar, Witty Banter, John Lombardo - Occasional Guitar and Trivia and Mary Ramsey - Viola, Vocals.
